CHANGQING TreeSpade: Revolutionizing Tree Transplanting with Hydraulic Precision-Part 2
Q: What size excavator is needed to operate the tree spade? Can all excavators be equipped? Can loaders be adapted?
A: Excavators above 60 tons can generally support the tree spade, but compatibility depends on the excavator model and tonnage. For example:
A 60-ton excavator can handle tree spades up to model 60
A 75-ton excavator can support models up to 80
An 85-ton excavator can operate models up to 100
Larger models 120 and 140 require 200-ton and 260-ton+ excavators respectively. However, most commercially transplanted trees have a DBH under 20cm, making models below 100 generally sufficient.
Any compatible excavator simply needs bidirectional hydraulic circuits and foot pedals for installation (similar to mounting a breaker or grapple).
Loaders above model 30 can be modified, but we don’t recommend adaptation due to:
Complex retrofitting requirements
Limited maneuverability (large turning radius makes directional adjustments difficult)

Q: Can it work in hard soil/gravelly ground/rocky areas?
A: For extremely compacted soil, we recommend watering 3-7 days in advance to:
Soften the soil for easier digging
Enhance soil cohesion for better root ball formation and transplant survival
For gravel or rocky terrain:
Nursery operators typically avoid establishing plots in heavily rocky areas
Rocks under 15cm will either be cleanly severed or displaced (minimal blade damage)
Larger rocks will prevent blade penetration (the machine may even lift). In such cases, cease operation - these require dedicated breakers rather than forced cutting.
